First Draft Assessment

After gaining some feedback from the viewing and peer assessment of our first draft we were able to evaluate and plan the next steps we need to complete and the various features we need to update for our second draft in a few weeks time. The overall feedback was good and the grades given by our peers ranged from a D to a B. They were particular impressed by the quick cuts throughout the video which helped create a nice flow as they cut on the beat as appropriate. The mise-en-scene was also commented on as it was very conventional of a drum & bass video.

From our feedback we have decided to reshoot and update various aspects of our music video so far:

  • Remove Emily and her character from the video entirely as the narrative was not strong enough and more relevant shots could be put in those places
  • Change the narrative to focus on the masked character rather than Emily
  • Reshoot various shots mainly at the beginning as they were unnecessarily unsteady and shaky
  • Remove some repeated/duplicate shots and update them with unique one

a few shots we plan to update or reshoot

Filming Day 3

On the 19th November we all travelled up to Waterloo to visit and film in the Leake Street tunnel. This was a very successful shooting time as we got the urban feel we wanted to create within the mise-en-scene. We gained various shots from numerous different angles and positions of the artist lip syncing and some filler shots of the graffiti and features of the tunnel. Emily and Jack both did the majority of the filming of these shots as I was the person being filmed for the lip syncing and artist shots.

Filming Day 2

Here are a few examples of the types of shots we gained today. We tried to focus on getting the masked character from various shots as well as the female character embarking on her journey into and through the beginning of the narrative. One thing that wasn't effective was the time of day, it would have been better to be a lot darker so we may end up reshooting various aspects.

Filming Day 1

Here is a gif of some of the types of shots we gained throughout our shooting time on Tuesday, 5th November. We stuck to the schedule well and everything went as it should. We got everything we needed from that specific park location such as masked character standing behind and hiding in the bushes from various different angles and shot types.

However we have decided to have a reshoot at some point as the clothing choices for the main female character does not go with what we wished her to look like, therefore we need to reshoot with more vulnerable clothing to keep with the idea and mise-en-scene we are going for.

Another good feature of the shots we got was the timing as the weather and time of day was perfect to create a vulnerable look. It was very windy and bleak which added to the mise-en-scene and allowed us to create the effect we wanted.
